top three for Bruna Farias

Brazilian sprintster Farias enters all time list over 60m.

Powerade athlete Bruna Jessica Oliveira Farias did three indoor competitions in Europe in the last two weeks. In her first outing in Apeldoorn she ran her debut 60 meters in 7.61 seconds. In the final against the top ranked sprintsters in the Netherlands she scored a fifth place: 7.62sec behind, amongst others, winner Dafne Schippers 7"28.

Powerade head coach Gerard Lenting was pleased with these performances: "It is difficult coming from the Southern hemisphere and just arrive here with temperatures below zero. It takes time to get used to this. Despite that Bruna proved she is in good shape".

The next competition venue was in the regional training center Ookmeerhal, Amsterdam. In a strong and also big field (with eleven heats on the women side) Bruna Farias proved to be the fastest wit a new best time: 7.46 in the finals. Coach Lenting: " I knew after the competition in Apeldoorn the time would come down. With a bit more race experience in this short dash, where every detail counts, a time under 7.40 seconds is possible. Bruna needs a few more races to master this".

The third competition was at the Open Belgium Students Championships in Gent. On Friday night she ran two strong races and finished third in the final with 7”49. “ I am not totally happy with the time, but it is improving. Overall it was a very big experience. Racing against unknown opponents, indoors and in the ‘cold’. I hope to show my best in Brazil when we come back to race in Sao Paulo on Sunday”, claimed the sprintster after the race.

With her personal best she is now ranked third in the all time top five indoors over sixty meters in Brazil. Esmeralda Freitas Garcia is the national record holder with 7”26. Second is Ana Claudia Lemos with 7”36.
