Brazilian sprintster Farias beats the cold
Bruna Jessica Oliveira Farias from the Powerade (RJ) team is improving every time whilst training in the Netherlands and competing indoors. In her first outing in Apeldoorn she ran the 60 meters in 7.61 seconds. In the final against the top ranked sprintsters in the Netherlands she scored a fifth place: 7.62sec behind, amongst others, winner Dafne Schippers 7"28.
Coach Gerard Lenting was pleased with the performances: "It is difficult coming from the Southern hemisphere and just arrive here with temperatures below zero. It takes time to get used to this. Despite that Bruna proved she is in good shape".
Yesterday the competition venue was the Ookmeerhal, Amsterdam. In a strong and also big field (with fifteen heats) Bruna Farias proved to be the fastest wit a new best time: 7.46 in the finals. Coach Lenting: " I knew after the competition in Apeldoorn the time would come down and this is not the end. With a bit more race experience in this short dash, where every details counts, a time under 7.40 seconds is possible. Bruna needs a few more races to master this".
The next outing will be the Belgium Students Championships in Gent on Friday night.
Extra: the entry standard for the World Indoor Athletics Championships (Sopot/POL) is 7"32.
