'our garden' in Doha
One need not veer away from the city to experience quiet for a surprisingly breathtaking and refreshing hideaway can be found within Doha limits and it is fast becoming a favourite among nationals and expatriates alike.
Strategically located just behind the Villaggio and Hyatt Plaza malls, two prominent commercial hubs in Doha, Aspire Park is now frequented by visitors during nighttime.
When the clock strikes 5pm on a usual weekend, the once barren green park is slowly filled with people wishing to enjoy the different features of Doha’s biggest park.
The recreation area is nestled on a vast expanse of land measuring over 80 hectares bound by Al Waab and Huwar streets and has, among its eye-catching exciting features, a large man-made lake with bridges and fountains.
Running through the lake is a walkway with 21 fountains forming arches, a place where visitors to the park won’t fail to experience passing through. Around a hundred meters away is an arch bridge, crossing which would lead to the Aspire Petit Café, a cozy Western inspired coffee shop serving delectable pasta, salad, and cake, among others. Another restaurant will soon open in a similarly constructed structure opposite the coffee shop.
Truly a sight to behold for any visitor is a dozen geese disturbing the calm waters as they wade through the lake while the horizon slowly turns crimson.
As night comes, more and more people arrive to the park and the entire field looks lovely with the thousands of lights flickering like stars along the tracks, by the trees and the lake. The imposing Aspire Tower, the tallest structure in the city, also adds appeal to the view.
Odd-looking Australian bottle trees are among the hundreds of trees planted on the park to provide shade to seating areas ideal for picnics. In addition, benches were also set up to provide a resting spot for people after walking or running along the jogging tracks.
Opened since December last year, the park also offers paved sections for cycling and roller skating and large parking space.
The area is expected to accommodate more people when weather turns pleasant during winter, but for now visitors can only stay in the park only from evening till early morning due to the hot weather.THE PENINSULA
