beat the stats

In the last couple of month been working with some promising athletes in Sao Paulo. Talented athletes but also one or two world class potentials. A very raw talent is Felipe dos Santos. He about four times a week at the centro olympico track. His coach is the young Felipe Siqueira. Both are willing to learn and very eager to get information. We did a couple of sessions. Talked a some meetings. Got along quite well and when the novice was at the copa brasil I had time to talk to both of them. Scoring close to the CBAT standard for WYC in France he was eager to prove he could do it. When I told them the stats he was not very impressed but just said he could give it a try. And he did. so he qualified with 5944 after just eight month of training and of course set pb on the road. Not so strange as your just started with combined events but..... This kid has a lot of raw power. This year he improved to (order of octathlon) 11,16sec, 6m64cm, 14m70cm, 50.10sec, 14.90 sec, 1m84cm, 48m20cm an 2'49"77.
So only in his first year he did some promising results and most of it in the two days eigth eventer. Going to France for the world under 18y was a major upset for his family. And believe me he was very exited as well.
Last two days he improved again: in three events his pb and in four events scored his best point results as well and in the end Felipe (club: ADECO) got a medal. Very proud of this kid. Hope to guide "the Felipes" (him and the coach) on the road to 2016-2020.

"A competição foi difícil e estou muito feliz com a conquista. Vou comemorar bastante e torcer pelos meus companheiros que ainda competem aqui em Lille", disse o atleta, por telefone, da França.

Beating the stats with the lowest score in the history of the championships for bronze. Well done Felipe!!!
