Powerade athlete: Dandadeua Asteria de Souza Brites da Silva, showed big improvement in Campinas/SP
São Paulo - With two personal best results Dandadeua Asteria de Souza Brites da Silva showed big improvement in hurdle technique and leg speed. The 400m hurdles specialist in the Powerade athletics team had a very good outing this Saturday at the track Centro Esportivo de Alto Rendimento - Swiss Park, in Campinas (SP).
In the heats of the second leg in the Campeonato Paulista de Atletismo meeting, Danda took third place in the hurdle sprint. She made the three stride rhythm look very ease and closed down on her rivals in the final stages over 100 meters. "It looks like that the effort she put in a lot drills and many exercises over hurdles is paying of", head coach Gerard Lenting said after the race with a smile. With 14"51sec she bagged a personal best.
In the men's race Gabriel Oliveira Constantino was unlucky to hit two hurdles hard: the second one whilst attacking the 1m07cm high obstacle and on the third hurdle with his trail leg. All rhythm was gone and no chance for a good time and he finished a disappointing last in the fastest heat.
The B-final proved to be different. After a sloppy start the Powerade athletes dominated the field and won in 14"19. Good for the fourth time over all at this well organized FPA meet.
In the mean time Danda ran a quarter mile in a lifetime best. With some of the best four hundred meters girls in her heat she showed her potential to enter together with them on the home straight. " The hard work is paying off and she really put pressure on the girls," explained Lenting her personal best time: 54"03. " She really is ready to show a good time over the 400 meter hurdles the coach explained. "Gabriel is going for a training camp with the Brazilian relay team and on the other hand Danda has the major races over 400 hurdles coming up after Easter. The home season is very short with Trofeu Brasil in May, so we need to be ready", the Dutchman said.
Rio based Powerade team next outing is Copa Brasil Provas Combinada in Sao Bernardo (SP) with two high ranked athletes in the season list: Kerinde Hilario de Souza Brites da Silva (sb 6748points) in the decathlon and Karen Maria Cerqueira Lopes in heptathlon (sb 5119 points).
