the balance in the make-up of the workforce......
todays newspaper:
The Permanent Committee on Population has stated that the country's population will be 1,029,954 in the year 2010. The Committee has made the estimate based on the current growth rate of 5.3 per cent.
The population in 2010 will be largely made up of young people, followed by the aged and finally, children. According to the Committee, the demographics will be affected by immigration.
"Levels of education will also have been improved. However, our studies show that obstacles will still remain in implementing Qatarization."
This, the Committee said, was due to nationals' preference for jobs in the government or public sector as they offered benefits not always provided by private firms. "Private companies are only looking to make profits rather than Qatarization. There is also discrimination between men and women and in the salaries offered," the report said.
The Committee pointed out that the rules and regulations related to private sector companies should be made stricter. "Our study stressed the need for suitable solutions to sort out the balance in the make-up of the workforce," said the Committee.
In order to enable more Qataris to enter the workforce, only people who have special skills should be employed here from overseas.
