Aspire bags all colors

Chonburi - After the bronze medal on Tuesday in the 1500 meters, and the gold medal on Wednesday in the 800 meters, Friday the missing color was added to Aspire total. Bringing three medals home to Doha from the ninth Thailand Sport Games in Chonburi was not really to be expected. Abobaker Omar Alhaj Madebo won silver in the 600 meters event.

Chonburi- It was in Thailand’s province Chonburi in the Sammuk district that Aspire Athletics participated for the first time in games for Asian Sports schools. And what a debut it was.
With three medals the medal haul was bigger than expected said acting head coach Gerard Lenting. “After our summer camp in Europe with a lot of competition and a busy season, this meeting was an extra for our middle distance team”, Lenting added.

On the last day of the track and field meeting, Abobaker Omar Alhaj Madebo ran a controlled heat in the morning session over the 600 meters for 14 year olds. Just three hours later he won the third medal for Aspire by finishing in 1.35.
On the podium he received his medal from one of the honoured guests: general director of Apire dr. Thomas Flock. Flock was visibly pleased handing the medal over to one of his protégés. “I think these games offer a good podium for our athletes. They can get used to different protocol, enjoy the atmosphere and meet opposition from their own age”, the director said, “In the future we like to make this meeting part of our program”.

Abobaker Omar Alhaj Madebo ran a totally in control in his heat in the morning. Coming on the home straight he pushed just a little to cross the line first. In the afternoon session it was much tougher. After a slow first hundred, Abobaker was in the driving seat and dictated the pace half way and took the lead. Only the Singapore run could overtake him and Abobaker had to settle for silver.
