Since people know I am working in Brazil everybody is asking about the Olympics. After my answer most of them look quizically. Why? Because they think everybody in Brazil is looking forward to this event in 2016. Let me get right to the point: it is not. The country is way to big to generate that kind of feeling now. Let's face the truth: Brazil is developing rapidly but not in all areas as fast as it looks if the standard is BRIC- investments. Brazil is a continent, Brazil has almost 200 million people, Brazil is more than Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. Yes, Brazil is a nice place and I am very happy to be working here and working on the future for athletics. But, the Games are Rio (and many people dont like RJ). The Olympics are for a happy few (mostly rich and only the talented). Olympics sports is different from Football (who cares about sports they don't know).
So we have first the Confederation Cup, than the World Cup and after that is Olympics. Football-football and more football. (Just to remind you there is many types of football: futsall, showball, beach, and for men and woman) Since the preparations began for the WC 2014 it is running behind schedule. Now most of the stadiums are almost ready (way over budget) but the infrastructure is not. Some people are getting worried about the logistics, but that are just the national team managers from the foreign countries.
But next week one of the first explorers is coming to visit us. Because Uberlandia is not only on the list for preparation/holdingcamps for the WC 2014 it is also on the list from the Olympic commitee for the 2016 Games. And some countries are good in planning and preparations. They start with a countback scenario. Where to prepare for the summer games (in the southern hemisphere it will be winter). Make a try out the year before 2015. Put a small training camp in a different period before the try out 2013/2014. Visit the sites available 2012-2013. So with less than 1600 days before Rio and with less than 130 days left to Londen we will have our first foreign counry looking for athletic tracks and accommodations to do a site visit at CNT SESI/Uberlandia next week Tuesday and Wednesday.
I am looking forward to it.
