A total of 185 top class athletes, including 78 female athletes, will compete in this year’s Qatar IAAF World Super Tour, the Qatar Association of Athletics Federations (QAAF) said yesterday. The event will be held at Suhaim Bin Hamad Stadium of Qatar Sports Club on May 12.According to QAAF, this year’s competition features 11 events for men, while female athletes will compete in eight events.The prize money for the competition has also been raised to 800,000 dollars from 650,000 dollars last year. “On top of 100,000-dollar reward from IAAF, we as local organisers are offering 30,000 dollars for every world record at the meet,” announced President of QAAF Dahlan al-Hamad.

DOHA: The Qatar Association of Athletic Federation (QAAF) and Toyota sign an agreement yesterday, making Toyota and Lexus the official main sponsor for the mega athletics event, Qatar IAAF World Super Tour.

Over 150 top athletes will be participating in the event which will take place at Suhaim bin Hamad Stadium on Friday.

The agreement was signed yesterday by President of QAAF Dahlan Al-Hamad on and Abdulrahman Abduljaleel Abdulghani, Managing Director of Abdullah Abdulghani & Brothers Co. (Toyota & Lexus).

QAAF President Al-Hamad delivered a speech where he welcomed the sponsorship of Toyota & Lexus Company for its great support for sports in Qatar, especially athletics.

Abdulghani announced the new contribution from his company to the Qatar IAAF World Super Tour where Toyota and Lexus will the official vehicles for the competition.

The signing ceremony was attended by QAAF Secretary General Abdullah al-Zaini and Dr Mohamed A al-Dorani, General Manager of Abdullah Abdulghani & Brothers Co. (Toyota & Lexus).

DOHA: Uganda’s world 3000m steeplechase champion Dorcus Inzikuru will not be able to defend her title at the Qatar Grand Prix on Friday after being taken ill at the weekend with an allergy infection.

Inzikuru, who had missed the Tororo national trials, was admitted to Iten Hospital.

“The information I have from Kenya is that she is now recovering steadily. She was on drip over the weekend,” her manager Flavio Pasqualato told The News Vision. “Due to the health problems, she has pulled out of the Qatar Grand Prix,”

Inzikuru is the Qatar GP defending champion, having set her second best time of 9:28.50.
