De Qur'an (spreek uit koer - 'aan) staat in de Ramadan centraal. Iedere moslim wordt geacht het hele boek door te nemen. Daartoe is het verdeeld in 30 stukken. De streng gelovigen doen dit wel drie keer! De taal van de Koran is Arabisch. De taal van Mohammed, een heilige taal ook die niet vertaald mag worden. Dit is het hoog Arabisch. Het hoog beschaafd arabisch zeg maar. Het is echter geen spreektaal. Of zoals F. het met een voorbeeld aan me heeft uitgelegd: iemand had arabisch gestudeerd vanuit de het heilige boek en toen hij voor het eerst het moest uitspreken kwam hij in de problemen. Hij vroeg in zijn beste hoog beschaafd arabisch een kaartje in de bus. De buschauffeur wilde hem de bus uitzetten omdat hij dacht dat hij voor de gek werd gehouden en vroeg hem normaal te praten. Uiteindelijk werd de jongen gered door de medepassagiers die zagen dat hij geen spreektaal kende en daarom zo verheven sprak.

Arab and non-Arab Muslim children recited verses from the Qur’an on Al Jazeera Children Channel (JCC) live yesterday to mark the 27th day of Ramadan, which is considered the holiest of the month.
JCC, which organised the annual “Qur’anic Night” for the third consecutive year, also telecast live recitals from Sarajevo in Bosnia-Herzegovina. The Grand Mufti of Bosnia-Herzegovina, Mustafa Ceric, said in a live interview from Sarajevo that after the Bosnian civil war resulted in 10,000 deaths among children, as well as thousands of orphans, more Bosnians turned to religion.Ceric called upon the children to seek happiness, peace and their parents’ love.
Cleric Mouwafi Arab from the Qatar Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs pointed out that such TV programmes for children show that Islam is not only a religion for Arabs, but also for all of humanity. “The evidence is here, with children from the Americas, Europe, Asia and Africa gathered tonight to recite the Qur’an,” the ministry official said.
