As in previous years the Liebherr Qatar Open has attracted a very strong entry. The very best players are on duty in Doha.
In the Men’s Singles event, of the top sixteen players on the current ITTF Men’s World Rankings only China’s Hou Yingchao (ranked no. 12) and Korea’s Joo Se Hyuk (ranked no. 13) are missing, whilst in the Women’s Singles competition it is a similar scenario.
Only two of the top sixteen World Ranked players are absent, Gao Jun of the United States who is ranked no. 9 and Cao Zhen of China who is ranked no.16.
The top eight seeds in the Men’s Singles are: 1. Wang Liqin (China) 2. Ma Lin (China) 3. Wang Hao (China) 4. Timo Boll (Germany) 5. Vladimir Samsonov (Belarus) 6. Chen Qi (China) 7. Oh Sang Eun (Korea) 8. Ryu Seung Min (Korea).
Meanwhile in the Women’s Singles the leading seeded players are 1. Zhang Yining (China) 2. Wang Nan (China) 3. Guo Yan (China) 4. Li Jia Wei (Singapore) 5. Guo Yue (China) 6. Tie Yana (Hong Kong) 7. Li Xiaoxia (China) 8. Wang Yue Gu (Sngapore).
The first two days of competition are dedicated to the qualification stages in the four events with matches in the main draw commencing on Thursday 15th February 2007
