A combination photo shows the different phases of the partial solar eclipse seen in Qatar yesterday. The snaps were taken at intervals of 15 minutes from 1.35pm to 3.02pm. Residents wearing protective eyewear had been looking at the sky from 11am to see the celestial sight as most reports had said the eclipse would be seen in Qatar from that hour. However, the eclipse was visible to the naked eye only after 1.35pm, one of the watchers said. A total eclipse of the sun was witnessed in Canada, Russia and China, casting dramatic shadows and allowing a glimpse of the sun’s outer atmosphere. The last solar eclipse seen in the Arab world was in March 2006, while the next one is expected to be in January 2010, according to the Voices of Iraq news agency.
