branding (the buzz word in the Gulf)
DOHA, November 25, 2009 Abdulla al-Zaini, event director of the upcoming IAAF World Indoor Championships (WIC), Doha 2010, and President of the QAAF, announced the official launch of the WIC Doha 2010 brand identity which will be in use at the 13th IAAF World Indoor Championships in Athletics, being held in Doha from March 12-14, 2010.
The launch of the WIC Doha 2010 brand is significant as it will be the very first use of the new IAAF logo and brand identity at any championship. The logo was unveiled by the federation recently during Berlin 2009, the World Championships in athletics, which are held every two years in tandem with the World Indoor Championships (WIC). The IAAF’s new logo and competition brand system are an effort by the federation to create a consistent and recognizable look for all IAAF events, especially its system of competitions.
Being held for the very first time in Doha at the World Indoor Championships, the IAAF’s first major competition since the close of the 2009 athletics season, this brand and the Doha 2010 brand vision align very closely. The officials of WIC Doha 2010 organizing committee said that they are committed to “Challenging the Limits
The organizing committee and the IAAF have emphatically stated that this is a defining moment for the Arab world and perhaps the entire world, as it is the first time that such a high-profile event has come to the region. One of the major ambitions for WIC Doha 2010 is that it will set the pace for a brand new age in athletics. This is a very ambitious goal, says Abdulrahman al-Dosari, marketing manager of Doha 2010, but Qatar has proven over the years that anything is possible.
