The penalty prescribed for littering of the above types was QR10, 000. "I think the fine was too much, so we are reducing it to half," the daily quoted the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Agriculture, H E Sultan bin Hasan Al Dhabit Al Dosri, as saying in an interview.
The minister, however, said that trucks, other vehicles, commercial establishments and eating outlets littering the streets or dumping waste materials and violating anti-pollution and anti-public cleanliness laws, will not be spared.
He said a new law that prescribes these fines and procedures for reconciliation and levy of the fines (Law No 17 of 2005) has come into effect from August 28 this year.
