Q-POST yesterday launched a stamp dedicated to the victims of Israeli aggression in the Gaza Strip.
Speaking at the ceremony, Q-Post chairman Ali Mohamed al-Ali said the new stamp was a testimony of the love and affection the people of Qatar have for their brethren in Palestine.
He said proceeds from the sale of stamps would go to the victims of Gaza war. The QR1 stamp will be sold for QR10 as a special case, he said.
A Qatari artist Saeeda al-Bader designed the stamp. Al-Bader is currently working for the Arrayah newspaper, Gulf Times’s sister publication.
The Q-Post chairman marked the launch of the stamp by handing over a set of eight stamps to al-Bader, at the function, which was also attended by the artist’s sons. The stamp shows the image of a Gaza girl shedding tears with the inscription “Qatar sheds tears for Gaza.”
The chairman recalled that it was the second time, an image created by a Qatari woman artist had been approved by the Q-Post.
He said Hessa al-Merekhy’s images of ancient doors, designed five years ago, were chosen by the postal corporation.
About 80,000 stamps are available for sale through branches of Q-Post and also at the Philately Bureau of the General Post Office, he said.
As a special gesture, the postal corporation has also launched 20,000 copies each of the first day covers and souvenir cards, which too will be available for purchase.
Appealing to the stamp collectors to make the sale of this issue a big success, the chairman said it was one of the ways to demonstrate their solidarity for the victims of Israeli assault on Gaza, which claimed about 1,300 lives in about three weeks
