DOHA, 10th March, 2009 - The Qatar Olympic Committee has announced four new ambassadors for the Schools Olympic Day Programme.



The Schools Olympic Day ambassadors are a group of high-profile sportspeople, cultural icons and other figureheads who have a connection to Qatar, the Middle East or the values of the Schools Olympic Day programme, and their role is to publicly support and promote the Schools Olympic Day programme.



The new ambassadors are;



Ahmad Saad, a retired handball athlete who was named best player in several championships; Saad was a member of Al-Sadd and Al Ahli Sports Clubs and has scored many wins in the GCC and the Arab world with the Youth handball team
Hamad AlHamadi, a table tennis star who helped bring 10 consecutive annual victories for Al Ahli Sports Club earning the Arab Cup in 1995 in Tunisia and in 1997 in Jordan. AlHamadi represented West Asia during the Atlanta Olympic Games in 1996 and in Sydney in 2000
Mubarak AlNoaimy, a renowned diving champion with many prestigious titles to his landmark record
Mansour Moftah, a retired football player who left an indelible mark during six GCC Cup Championships. Moftah’s illustrious performance was highly acclaimed during the AFC Asian Cup finals in 1980, 1984 and 1988 in addition to the Los Angeles Olympics in 1984. In 1982, Moftah won the Arab Scorer title; he played for various teams across the GCC and Asia and earned the Qatari League Scorer four times in a row.


Mr. Abdul-Rahman Al-Dosari, Director of PR and Marketing Department at QOC said: "Our ambassadors will reach youth communities throughout Qatar to promote Olympic values and raise the sport awareness and participation among the youth."



Mr. Al-Dosari added: "The Schools Olympic Day provides young people with more opportunities to pursue their sporting interests to competitive level and the ambassadors will inspire the next generation of Qatari athletes."
