DOHA: It will be business as usual for the Immigration Department during the four-day United Nations-sponsored International Conference on Financing for Development, which opens here on November 29, sources at the Ministry of Interior told The Peninsula yesterday.
Visas and exit permits will be issued as usual and there will be no restriction on people travelling in and out of the country during the UN-led convention, a source at the Public Relations Department of the Ministry of Interior said.
“All types of visas will continue to be issued during the UN conference. The event is not going to make any difference to the work of the Ministry of Interior. No changes are going to take place as far as visa issuance or any other service of the Ministry is concerned,” the source said.
Asked if there was a possibility of at least stopping during the conference the ‘visa on arrival’ facility at the Doha International Airport, which is currently available to citizens of some 33 countries, the source said: “No. That facility will also continue to be in place. Whoever is eligible can access it.”
Replying to a question about the issuance of exit permits to enable residents to travel overseas during the UN event, the source reiterated: “As we told you, no services of the Ministry of Interior will be stopped during the conference. Exit permits will continue to be issued. There will be no restrictions on people travelling in and out of the country.”
When told that sections of the local media had reported that the services of the Immigration Department will be affected during the UN event, the source said: “Those were misleading
