HH Sheikha Mozah Nasser al-Misnad, the special envoy of the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (Unesco) for Basic and Higher Education, yesterday attended a high-level meeting at the UN headquarters in New York along with the UN member-states’ leaders concerned with the financing of education for the Millennium Development Goals. Discussions dealt with UN education goals set in 2000 regarding achieving universal primary education by 2015, international assistance, impact of armed conflicts and wars on
educational institutions, teachers and students, particularly in Iraq, Palestine and Afghanistan. The meeting was attended by a number of presidents, leaders and senior officials at the UN.

NEW YORK: Achieving peace requires “establishing and promoting economic and social justice among peoples,” HH the Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani said in an address at the general debate of the 63rd session of the UN General Assembly yesterday.

President of Qatar Football Association (QFA), HE Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Bin Ahmed Al Thani, announced on Tuesday that the association terminated its term with Qatar's national football team coach, Jorge Fossati of Uruguay due to medical reasons which needed prolonged treatment.
The QFA President conveyed his thanks and appreciation towards Fossati in recognition of his services that led the country's football team secure outstanding results at the ongoing Asian Zone 2010 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
