het is een plicht voor iedere moslim om geld te doneren. dit geld (in eerste instantie ging het om vier handen vol eten: dadels, kas, rozijnen enz.) mag niet gebruikt worden om anderen mee te verrijken. het is vooral delen met de rest van de gemeenschap. dit contact met alle lagen van de bevolking: rijk en arm wordt zeer belangrijk gevonden. later is het ook een soort aflaat geworden voor alle fouten die je maakt gedurende de ramadan en die je dan "afkoopt" met een gift aan het begin van het Suikerfeest.

The Islamic Studies Section has fixed the amount following a field survey on food price trends of the foods consumed by the community in Qatar, especially rice.
Zakat Al Fitr is a small amount that Muslims are obliged to pay as charity at the end of Ramadan. It is an obligatory charity on every Muslim at the end of the month of Ramadan, young and old, male and female.
The purpose of Zakat Al Fitr is to purify the one who has fasted from any type of indecent act or speech he might have committed while fasting. It also intends to help the poor and the needy during Eid Al Fitr holidays.
The amount QR 15 was fixed two years back.
