Doha • Global investment bank Lehman Brothers, which has gone bust, could be pulling out from its offices at the Qatar Financial Centre (QFC).

Officials of the Qatar Financial Centre Regulatory Authority (QFCRA) refused to comment, saying a statement is to be issued on the matter. However, with Lehman Brothers' operations put on hold at the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) unless otherwise decided by its administrators, it would seem logical a similar scenario could take place here at the very least.

Lehman Brothers had established a strategic partnership with the Qatar Investment Authority sovereign wealth fund to capitalise on principal investment opportunities. At the time, Jeremy Isaacs, CEO of Lehman Brothers (Europe and Asia), had said: "Lehman Brothers is laying the foundation for a strong and successful business in the Middle East. The region is very important to the firm and we look forward to developing new client relationships as well as growing existing relationships in 2007 and beyond."

The QFCRA had granted the licence to Lehman Brothers to operate from the QFC in 2007.
