Doha, April 22,2009- H.E Sheikh Saoud Bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani, Secretary General of the Qatar Olympic Committee, received on Tuesday in his office the former athletics legend USA's Carl Lewis, on the occasion of his visit to Doha.
H.E welcomed the World Star, praising his achievements in Athletics arenas, which allowed him to become an important figure of Athletics worldwide. Sheikh Saud underlined that Carl Lewis enjoys a huge popularity and represents the model athlete for his whole generation and even for the present young generations.
His Excellency Sheikh Saoud briefed the American sport figure about the Schools Olympic Day program, organized by QOC, in cooperation with some other government bodies, whose final stage took place successfully mid-March under the theme "Sport and Environment".
As for Mr. Carl Lewis, he expressed his happiness of being in Doha, and his admiration for the global sport development in Qatar, and for the excellent quality of the sports facilities existing in the country which are worth any other facilities in the world.
The encounter was attended by Mr. Khalil Al Jabir, Director of QOC Sports Affairs Department and Mr. Abdulrahman Mosallam Al Dosari, Director of Public Relations and Marketing Department, as well as the members of the delegation accompanying Mr. Lewis: the ex-champion Chris Waddle, and the IOC Ambassador for Paralympic Sports, Mr. Ban Hu, from China.
