De Grote Prijs van Qatar in de koningsklasse MotoGP is zondagavond afgelast. Een enorme wolkbreuk boven het circuit van Losail en heftig noodweer boven Doha verhinderden de voortzetting van de wedstrijd. De openingsrace in het wereldkampioenschap wegrace onder kunstlicht werd afgebroken.

Het onstabiele weer zorgde gisteravond voor veel overlast. De motoGP werd dus afgebroken en het verkeer ondervond veel hinder van de neerslag.
Gistermiddag trokken al buien over ons heen. Maar er viel geen neerslag van betekenis. In de avond weerlichtte het continu maar de buien bleven boven zee. Rond een uur of tien trokken de buien over ons huis en ging het fiks regenen. Ondertussen bleven de buien heen en weer gaan. Tussen de buien door even droog en stil en dan weer hevige windstoten en slagregen. Het geluid van de dikke druppels op de carport en de window ac's hield me uit de slaap. Ik heb staan kijken naar het onweer vanachter het raam in de leeskamer. Steeds waren er bliksemschichten zowel verticaal als ook horizontaal. Later in bed, mevrouw Lenting sliep de slaap der onschuldigen, werd ik opnieuw wakker. Ik hoorde de wind hard tegen de ramen en er was een ander geluid. Het duurde even voor ik het kon plaatsen. Ja hoor lekkage. Op onderzoek uit en de bovendeur naar het dakterras liet onderlangs water door. Dat stroomde naar de overloop (sic!) en zo het trappenhuis in. Dweilen dus. Toen handdoeken neergelegd en slapen. Vanochtend in huis alles op gedroogd en buiten bijna alle regen verdwenen op een klein plasje voor het huis na.
De zon schijnt het is praktisch onbewolkt en de temperatuur klimt al weer naar mid twintig.

Spectators were left disappointed as the MotoGP category was cancelled due to adverse weather caused by rain in the floodlit Commercialbank Grand Prix, the opening leg of the 17-round FIM MotoGP World Championship at the Losail International Circuit last night.
A decision was taken to stage the showpiece event at 9pm tonight after a warm-up at 6.30pm, according to International Road Racing Teams’ Association (IRTA) president Herve Poncharal, who attended a meeting of QMMF and Dorna officials at the circuit.
Qatar Motor and Motorcycling Federation (QMMF) press officer Majdi Zahran also confirmed the postponement.
Earlier, after the opening 125cc race of the day was red-flagged following the fourth of a total of 18 laps due to rain and the 250cc category was reduced to 13 laps from a total of 20 in better conditions, the spectators, numbering more than 6,500, were left dejected with rain playing spoilsport as they braced for some high quality MotoGP action.
After Saturday’s MotoGP qualifying session, two-time Qatar race winner Australian Casey Stoner of the Ducati Marlboro Team took the pole position ahead of six-time MotoGP world champion Valentino Rossi of Fiat Yamaha Team. Spanish rider Jorge Lorenzo of Fiat Yamaha Team and the 2008 Rookie of the Year completed the front row.
Repsol Honda Team’s Andrea Dovizioso, Rizla Suzuki’s Loris Capirossi and Monster Yamaha Tech 3 team’s Colin Edwards are in the second row. Page 44
