DOHA, November 1, 2007 (Jamal Mohammed Ahmed) - His Excellency Sheikh Saoud bin Abdurrahman Al Thani, Secretary General of Qatar Olympic Committee has received on Wednesday (October 31) two prizes for beautiful sport facilities in the world which have been given to Aspire Dome that clinched silver medal. As it won second place at the World Competition. Khalifa Stadium ranked at third place and secured bronze medal in the same competition.
His Excellency, received two prizes on Wednesday in Germany, during a honorable ceremony organized by the International Committee of Sport Facilities (IAKS, with attendance of prominent world sport dignitaries.
Many officials and athletes expected that Aspire Zone will win advance places in such competition which was staged by the International Committee of Sport Facilities.
Such win will be considered as pride for Gulf people and Arab, because State of Qatar is the only Arab country which entered the Classification of this competition and won two prizes among 88 privileged sport facilities.
The achievement was not the first for Qatari Facilities, because in near past during organization of the 15th Asian Games – Doha 2006, Khalifa Stadium achieved another applause when it hosted the best ever opening ceremony in the history of Asian Games. As well as, Aspire Dome was the centre of attraction for media, sports personalities and athletes in the Doha Asian games.
